Breastfeeding advice on producing more milk for your newborn baby
My three-week-old daughter was 9lb 11oz at birth and always seems hungry – feeding her every two hours for an hour at a time is exhausting. What would help me produce more milk?
As you’re still only at the early stages of breastfeeding, I suggest you need help and support from your midwife, health visitor or a breastfeeding counsellor. This help is most important, as you are learning a new skill and getting used to being a parent.
Ask your health visitor or GP to watch your baby feed, to check your breastfeeding position. Meanwhile, feeding on demand helps your body produce more milk, so continue to feed your daughter as and when she needs milk.
You could also join a local breastfeeding group – it’s a valuable source of support and you can ask other mothers as well as the professionals for tips and advice.
